Department Asset Transfer Program
Exigent Defense in-house attorneys and inventory logistics team specialize in assisting public safety departments in maximizing the disposition value of their outdated or surplus assets. We provide comprehensive services to help departments sell, consign, or trade old equipment, firearms, ammunition, forfeited property, evidence, and other assets that are no longer in active use. Our streamlined process ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations while offering transparent and efficient solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of law enforcement agencies. By partnering with Exigent Defense, departments can repurpose their unused resources into funding for modern equipment, training, or other operational needs, enhancing their overall efficiency and readiness.
What We Can Transfer:
- Department Service Weapons
- National Firearms Act Firearms (commonly referred to as Class 3 weapons): machine guns, short barrelled rifles, short barrelled shotguns, silencers, destructive devices, and any other weapons as defined by the NFA.
- Non-transferrable weapons salvaged for parts and destroyed.
- Firearm accessories such as magazines, optics, slings, grips, foregrips, bolt carrier groups or other parts.
- Ammunition
- Asset Forfeiture Property
- Department Vehicles
What We Do Not Transfer:
- Department of Defense (DoD) small arms or any other assets loaned to law enforcement agencies through the 1033 Program.
- Assets connected to open cases or cases pending appeals.
Valuation and Transfer Process
- Submit Your Itemized List: Contact Exigent Defense with a detailed list of items and their quantities for trade. Include the condition of each item, and for firearms, specify the make, model, caliber, and the number of magazines included. If your department requires firearm destruction, please indicate your destruction policy. Include any pictures, documentation, or relevant history regarding the assets.
- Receive an Appraisal: Once we receive your list, we will provide a trade-in value for the items. You can choose to receive the appraised total as a cash payment or apply it as credit towards your department’s purchase of new equipment. Purchases can be made through Exigent Defense, partner vendors, or third parties—we will pay them directly on your behalf.
- Item Collection and Processing: A Exigent Defense representative will visit your agency to retrieve the items or assist with shipping logistics. If destruction is required, we will document and photograph the process, ensuring compliance with your department’s policies for destroying frames or receivers.
